WSJ reports on F-16 crash in Ukraine, no comment from Ukrainian Air Force

One of the F-16 jets delivered to Ukraine earlier this month was destroyed in a crash, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on August 29, citing an unnamed US official.

Ukraine received its first F-16 In early August, a year after his allies formed the fighter jet coalition at the NATO summit in Vilnius to support Kyiv with training and aircraft.

According to media reports, only 10 jets have been delivered so far. At least 79 F-16s have been delivered to Kiev by the Netherlands, Denmark, NorwayAnd Belgium.

Although the plane was not shot down by Russian fire, it crashed during the major Russian attack on August 26, the WSJ reported.

Russia launched 200 missiles and drones on August 26 in the largest airstrike on Ukraine.

The attacks hit several civilian facilities as well as energy and fuel facilities, including a dam in Kyiv, part of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Station, Seven people were killed and at least 47 others were injured.

“The crash was likely the result of pilot error,” the WSJ said.

“The Ukrainian Air Force would not confirm the crash or the pilot’s status,” the WSJ added.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on August 27 that F-16 jets had been used to repel the attack on August 26.

Ukraine has shot down 102 missiles and 99 drones 127 missiles and 109 drones fired by Russia during the morning attack.
