DA: Police fired weapons during chaotic Allentown shooting Sunday night | Lehigh Valley regional news

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — New details are emerging about what happened in Sunday night's mass shooting. The Lehigh County district attorney said police officers fired shots during the chaotic scene.

People were gathering in the parking lot on North 7th Street, just half a block from the PPL Center. The Dominican Festival was taking place nearby at the time when shots were fired.

Surveillance videos show people hiding as several shots were fired. Eight people were injured, one of whom had to undergo surgery to save his life, according to police.

21-year-old Yunior Peralta-Quintana was arrested on charges including attempted murder and was denied bail.

But Peralta Quintana was not the only one who fired a gun. According to the district attorney, there was at least one other shooter in the crowd and two police officers fired their weapons.

In a statement, District Attorney Gavin Holihan said: “We do not currently believe that any of the victims were hit by the gunfire from the two officers who fired their weapons. However, the investigation is ongoing and there is still much work to be done.”

Allentown police did not confirm whether they are looking for additional suspects. They said their investigation is ongoing.
