Man went to Magalias home to kidnap and sexually abuse child, sheriff's office says

According to the Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), a man was arrested after entering a home in Magalia with the intent to kidnap and sexually assault a child.

It happened around 8:39 p.m. on Sunday when BCSO dispatch received a call about a robbery at a home on Temple Circle. Arriving officers reportedly found two victims inside the home. BCSO said one of the victims had been stabbed and was taken to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition.

The BCSO said investigators determined Samuel Dickenson, 31, of Chico, entered the home, immediately stabbed one of the victims and then attempted to stab the second victim, who defended himself. After an argument with the second victim, Dickenson drove away in his car, officials said.

On Monday, August 26, a man called police to report that he had recently been involved in a stabbing. Both the BCSO and the Chico Police Department (CPD) made contact with the caller, who was identified as Dickenson.

During the investigation, investigators found evidence that Dickenson already knew the residents of the Magalias' home. They said he knew a child lived in the home and went there to kidnap and sexually abuse the minor child.

Dickenson was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to commit rape.
