Perez highlights the “scary” aspect of the overwhelming McLaren performance

Sergio Perez said McLaren’s pace at the Dutch Grand Prix was “scary” for Red Bull.

Lando Norris took his second F1 victory at Zandvoort on Sunday, beating championship leader Max Verstappen by 22.9 seconds, his biggest margin of the season.

The Briton was unchallenged on the way to the chequered flag, while Perez finished sixth, his best result since Miami.

“As far as the weekend goes, it was a solid weekend,” said Perez.

“But I was very disappointed with the pace of the race. We hadn't expected that.

“I thought we would be much closer to McLaren. Ferrari was a huge surprise and of course McLaren.”

Thanks to McLaren's strong points haul ahead of Red Bull, the gap to the team from Milton Keynes was reduced to 30 points.

Despite the team being beaten by its closest rivals, Perez stressed that it was a constructive weekend for Red Bull as the team now looks to improve its form.

“There's a lot to understand,” he said. “It was a positive weekend for the team, testing different specifications with Max and myself.”

“We are collecting a lot of data for the weekend and hopefully we can put everything together into the right package soon.”

“Monza will be a different track again. But it was scary to see what McLaren can do.”
