Micky Van de Ven's injury fears

Everyone associated with Spurs, including coaching staff and fans, had their hearts in their throats when Van de Ven went down after a collision late in the first half, clutching his knee.

The Dutchman appeared to be in a lot of pain and replays showed that he may have twisted his knee after it got caught in the turf during a challenge.

Many may have feared the worst at the time, as injuries have been no stranger to the 23-year-old since his move to Spurs last summer.

Luckily, Van de Ven was able to save the ball and moved flawlessly again when he came out for the second half.

Any concerns were put to rest when the Dutch international made a superb run from the edge of his own box to the edge of Everton's penalty area and then set up Son Heung-min for Tottenham's fourth goal in the 77th minute.

Van de Ven will have his knee examined

When asked about his knee after the final whistle, Van de Ven told Football.London: “It's OK – we need to check it, but it feels OK.”

When asked about his brilliant pass to Son, the centre-back replied: “I just decided to keep going, hopefully nobody can stop me, and nothing happened. I knew Sonny was to my left, so I kept going towards the centre-back and put Sonny in at the right moment.”

Opinion on Spurs-Web

If there had been serious concerns, Van de Ven would not have been substituted for the second half.

If Tottenham want to challenge for major honours this season, it is crucial that the Dutchman stays fit throughout the season as he is irreplaceable.
